Once again, we arrived at today's destination without enough time for all there is to do. Kitty Hawk is a fascinating site, the preserved location of the first powered airplane flight. In the photo with the two wood structures, you can see 5 stone monuments. The large one on the left of the photo represents the starting point for Orville & Wilbur's first four flights. The other four, in succession toward the right and toward the backgound, are the landing points of those flights. The last one was over 4 times the distance of the third, which was nearly twice the distance of the first. The longest flight that first plane ever achieved was 24 miles long. We really enjoyed the area, including the large monument erected on the hill the Wright brothers had used for their earlier glider flights. The kids enjoyed playing on the nearby bronzed replica of the moment the plane first took to the air. Afterwards we enjoyed a picnic dinner on the beach and a bit of wading in the Atlantic. North Carolina is a truly beautiful state!
So happy to see you are experiencing "brotherhood form sea to shining sea." Enjoy the family fun and keep the great photos coming. By the way, welcome to VA. Will close on our house 5/24.
