Day 3 in the Capitol

Jere posting: We are really enjoying our trip, and we are enjoying sharing it with you - both those we have visited or met along the way and those of you at home who are following along. It has been fun keeping you posted on our activities.

We went into the city for the third and final time on Thursday. We really had the train thing figured out - it went very smoothly. The weather was cool and not rainy, so it was a good day to see monuments. We visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the WWII memorial. The VV Memorial is moving, with the notes and flags placed there by visitors. There were even plaques from school groups prepared for their native sons. Gregory Jerome Vandewalle is actually not related to us (he is from the San Antonio, TX Vandewalle Farms Salsa family), but it was still interesting to have a name to look for.

After a brief visit to the very crowded National Museum of American History, we decided to beat the rush hour on the train. There is plenty that we left undone for another time, and we were glad to leave still wanting more. Friday we are off to Fort McHenry!
